SWAN Member Libraries: As announced in the June Fireside Chat, BLUEcloud Mobile Checkout is now available by request. Mobile Checkout is an add-on to the SWAN Mobile App, which allows patrons to check material out by scanning item barcodes with the camera on their personal mobile devices. This add-on offers self-check functionality to libraries without dedicated self-check systems, or it can serve to compliment an existing system. RAILS, L2 Server Outages on 7/22/2021

SWAN Member Library Staff: Please be aware, RAILS is currently experiencing a server outage at their Burr Ridge datacenter. This outage affects the following services: * Logins to all RAILS websites and RAILS-specific services * Logins and access to L2 (Library Learning) events and directory website * Logins to the SWAN support as these authenticate via L2 * You can still access any content that does not require a login * Logins to the SWAN ticket website as these also authenticate via L2 * You can still email support issues to help(a)swanlibraries.net<mailto:help@swanlibraries.net> No other SWAN services are impacted by this outage. *Update* SWAN-wide Checkout Limits for Console Game Item Types

SWAN Member Library Staff: We have further evaluated this consortium-wide console game limit and have decided to move forward with the Circulation Advisory Group recommendation to lower the limit to 5 checkouts. Starting tomorrow, patrons will be limited to 5 checkouts of each console game item type -5 CONSOLEGAM, 5 CONSOLENEW, etc. It is important to use the correct item type for these limits to apply. SWAN will be reaching out to any libraries cataloging console games with an item type other than CONSOLEGAM or CONSOLENEW so the system can work properly. While libraries have always had the ability to limit the number of checkouts allowed per item type at their checkout library, these limits vary across SWAN, and there has been no overarching limit in place that affects the entire consortium. In response to these recent reports, we have set an overarching checkout limit for the console game item types - CONSOLEGAM, CONSOLEMAT, CONSOLENEW, CONSOL_SP1. Starting tomorrow, patrons will be limited to 11 checkouts of any of those 4 console game item types regardless of checkout library. The limit of 11 applies to each type - 11 CONSOLEGAM, 11 CONSOLENEW, etc. If a patron attempts to check out more than 11 of any of these item types, staff will see a "User cannot checkout any more of this item type" message. This message can be overridden for unique circumstances, such as checking materials out to generic users like DISCARD. We have run reports and found that only 24 patrons in the entire consortium currently exceed the new checkout limit of 11. These active checkouts will not be impacted, but the patrons will be unable to check out additional console games starting tomorrow. We will continue to assess a reasonable limit on these item types to balance patron service with reduction of abuse.
