OCLC Resource Sharing for Illinois Libraries - Nov. 9 program

On behalf of RAILS: Expanding Resource Sharing for Illinois Libraries with OCLC Resources On Monday, November 9, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 pm, OCLC staff will present OCLC Resource Sharing for Illinois Libraries at the RAILS Burr Ridge Service Center and via live streaming. This presentation will update library staff on OCLC's resource sharing products and OCLC staff will answer questions. This is an opportunity to learn more about the resources available to you right now as Illinois library system member to expand resource sharing for your library patrons. This update will include: * An overview of WorldCat Discovery and the Illinois Group Catalog, and review additional benefits of your library-specific Discovery URL for customization * WorldCat and FirstSearch Base Package database migration to WorldCat Discovery Services timeline and the importance of early adoption while services are running in parallel * Integration of WorldShare ILL and WorldCat Discovery to streamline work and support both reference and resource sharing in partnership * WorldShare Record manager and Collection manager as possible ways to help assist you with cataloging and e-resource management. Circulation staff --- new feature--- SMS Message

+++Please route to appropriate personnel +++ Today at the Circulation Managers workshop SWAN announced a new Workflows feature ---SMS Message. With SMS Message staff can send a message to an individual patron that has opted-in to SMS Messaging and the SMS Manual Message in particular. This feature should prove to be handy when a patron has left something at the Circ desk or if you have a short message to send to them. You might want to test this feature out at your library by having a staff member opt-in and then sent them a quick test message. Enjoy. Circulation ----New Helper available in Modify User Wizard

The User Manager ID helper allows a library to quickly and efficiently update User IDs in Modify User. Please see the attached document to see if this helper would be of assistance at your library. Second Enterprise Survey Now Open

To All SWAN Library Staff: Thank you for your participation in the first brief Enterprise survey. We collected over 300 responses! The second survey in the series covers search fields, and is now open at support.swanlibraries.net. This survey will be open until Wednesday, October 28th. Hold Pickup Notices

+++ Please route to appropriate personnel +++ Everyone - I hopes of curtailing the number of patrons reporting they have not received their emailed hold pickup notices, SWAN has made two changes to the email pickup notice process today. Starting tomorrow, we will be running email hold pickup notices 5 times a day, instead of twice. This is to hopefully eliminate huge mailings that might be resulting in the emails being dumped as spam by the patron's email service. Hold pickup notices will now be run at 9 AM, Noon, 3 PM, 6 PM, and 9 PM. I have updated the message in the hold pickup notice. The Subject line now reads "Library Hold Notice" and the message now reads -"The item you requested is available for pickup at the Library. Please visit the library within the next 7 days to pick up your item. Thank you." Starting tomorrow we will begin running a second email notice. This notice is sent as a reminder to notify patrons when their hold has been on the hold shelf for four days. This will run every day at 5 PM. Hopefully, those commuters that read their email on the train will get a timely reminder to stop by the library on their way home. The Subject line now reads "Library Holds Notice" and the message reads -"The item you requested is available for pickup at the Library for three more days. If you are unable to pick up the item by then, your hold will be automatically cancelled at that time. Thank you." I hope with this tweaking to the process, we will have more happy patrons. SWAN Circ Advisory Election Results

The election is now closed, and I am pleased to announce the six recently elected members of the SWAN Circulation Advisory Committee. They are: Cindy Maiello Gluecklich, MPS Sandra Leyva, AMS Julie Lombardo, WRS Debbie Sheehan, INS Peggy Tomzik, ESS Crystal Vela, BYS Congratulations to all who participated in the process. We had 13 fantastic people offer their time to serve. And 49 of the SWAN libraries submitted a ballot. The next SWAN Circ Advisory meeting is Nov. 18th, 9:30 AM in the RAILS meeting room. SWAN Circ Advisory Committee Election ballot closes at Noon tomorrow

Everyone - Just a quick reminder that the election ballot for the SWAN Circ Advisory Committee closes tomorrow at Noon. We ask that there is only one ballot cast per library, and recommend that it is cast by the Circulation Manager/ Supervisor. 5 Minute Enterprise Survey

This is the first in a series of 4 surveys about Enterprise. Each should take five minutes or less. We encourage all library staff, regardless of service area or position to complete these surveys. Surveys will open and close on Wednesdays. Today's survey will be open until Wednesday, October 21st. It will close at noon, at which time the next in the series will be released. The information we gather in these surveys will be used with information gathered through library visits, help tickets, and user testing to help improve the Enterprise experience. Rebuild User Database Report to Run Overnight

SWAN Member Library Staff: We have been experiencing a large volume of tickets related to user records and searching. Specifically, users records are retrievable by user ID but not by name. User records have also appeared duplicated for a period of time after having been created/edited. SWAN IT is running a rebuild of the user database, which will be completed overnight.
