SWAN Member Libraries & Information Technology Staff:
Just as a follow-up to our post from last year, SWAN IT staff have been running Windows 10 for over six months and have not encountered any significant issues with relation to SWAN's WorkFlows or Enterprise versions. We're also aware of several member libraries that had performed the upgrade to Windows 10 on many staff computers, and they have not encountered any notable incompatibilities. That being the case, any libraries looking to upgrade to Windows 10 now, prior to the expiration of Microsoft's free upgrade offer on July 29th, should feel free to do so.
If you do encounter any incompatibility issues following the upgrade to Windows 10, please be sure to report them to our ticket system at help(a)swanlibraries.net<mailto:help@swanlibraries.net> for further investigation.
Thank you,

Subject: SirsiDynix Compatibility with Windows 10 and Microsoft Edge
Importance: High
SWAN Member Libraries & Information Technology Staff:
Microsoft Windows 10 is here, and I know many IT administrators are excited to get it installed and running at your local libraries; however, we ask that you exercise caution when upgrading to the new platform, as it has not yet been fully tested and certified for compatibility with our version of SirsiDynix WorkFlows or the Enterprise OPAC. That being the case, abnormalities may arise, potentially in the areas of user permissions, Java functionality, and printing. SWAN staff will begin testing the new Windows platform alongside SirsiDynix as soon as possible and post any discovered issues to the "Known Issues<https://support.swanlibraries.net/content/known-issues>" page on the support site, but please know that until the platform is certified, we will be unable to troubleshoot issues to the fullest extent.
The official statement regarding Windows 10 compatibility from SirsiDynix is as follows:
"With the release of Windows 10 from Microsoft this week, SirsiDynix is currently working to ensure that all product applications and services are compatible with the OS and its new browser, Microsoft Edge. Our first priority is to certify Windows 10 for Enterprise, Portfolio, eResource Central, BLUEcloud PAC, e-Library, HIP, EOS.web, and Social Library.
SirsiDynix recommends that sites not upgrade their staff workstations to Windows 10 until it has been certified."
If you have any questions about WorkFlows compatibility or are running Windows 10 and have an experience to share, please email the SWAN IT team at it(a)swanlibraries.net<mailto:it@swanlibraries.net>.

SWAN Member Libraries -
As we move forward to prepare for the fiction/nonfiction facet in enterprise, it is necessary to edit an additional field when creating a pre-cat record. You will need to populate the Fiction fixed field highlighted below:
[cid:image002.jpg@01D1CC8A.3E5C3B00]
The fiction/nonfiction facet will be used for print and audiobooks only. Please populate the Fiction fixed field as follows:
Print or Audiobook: Enter "1" for fiction material.
Enter "0" for nonfiction material.
All other materials: Leave this field blank.
While there are a variety of codes that might appear in this fixed field in a full MARC record, this is an effort to keep the code as generic as possible while still populating the Item Category 3 correctly. Please be advised that this choice should not be based on local practice but should reflect literary form. For example, board books should be coded as fiction even if your library classifies these items as nonfiction.
Accurate population of this field will allow pre-cats to be included in search results when applying the new fiction/nonfiction facet.
If you have questions, please submit a ticket to help(a)swanlibraries.net<mailto:help@swanlibraries.net>.

Everyone -
I just wanted to share with everyone we had two perfect runs on SVA this weekend. YAY! So, it appears that all the bugs are worked out.
Just as a quick review of the process and the role of local libraries.
SVA is scheduled to notify patrons of three distinct situations:
1) Hold pickups
2) Overdue items
3) Billed items
Although a few libraries have requested that SVA only contact patrons for hold pickups (you can request this for your library if you wish).
Overdues and bills are run in the morning. Hold pickup notices are run three times a day ( 9:55 AM, 12:55 PM, and 3:55 PM). As a reminder, phone calls are made between the hours of 10:30 AM and 7:30 PM (Mon. - Fri.) and 11:00 AM and 6:00 PM (Sat. - Sun.).
At 7:55 each evening, a report is run to list any patrons that were not contacted after 3 attempts (either in person or voicemail)
After that, another report is run which checks to see if any of these patrons have an email address in their record. Those that do, receive email notification of their hold pickup, overdue, or bill.
The remaining patrons (those without an email) have a notice created ready to be printed and mailed in the morning. SWAN only prints the overdue and bill notices. There is no point in printing the hold pickup notices as the patron would probably receive the mailed notice after the item has expired on the hold shelf.
What SWAN libraries need to do to complete the process
We have created a new profile to be used by the SWAN libraries to check "finished reports" for any failed hold pickup notices. This profile is NOTICES/NOTICES (similar to Report/report). After 8 PM, each library should login to reports using the NOTICES/Notices account. Under "finished reports" check for a report for your library " SVA Pilot - SVA Failed Calls Notices - Hold Pickup only:XXX. (XXX being your library code). If there is not a report listed, all your patrons were notified of any hold pickups for that day. If there is no report, your work is done. If there is a report- please view it in order to determine which patrons need to be contacted by you about their items on the holdshelf. After you have printed the list of the patrons you need to call, you may delete the report for your library.
Good luck everyone, if you have any questions just open a ticket or give us a call.

SWAN Member Libraries,
We're thrilled at the excitement building around our July 22 user event, our first annual Summer SWANstravaganza. Our event registration page is now open, where you can buy tickets at $28 each, which will cover the cost of food for the day. SWAN is finalizing menu options with the vendor, and will be sending out a follow-up email to event registrants with options for them to select meal choices, as well as session preferences. We plan to scale the sessions by registrant interest to make sure that you'll be able to attend the trainings and sessions that are most important to you. The follow-up email will be sent to registrants as soon as the information becomes available. Thank you for your patience as we prepare for our first user event-we're so excited to host the membership this summer as we strive to improve library services!
More information can be found on our support website at https://support.swanlibraries.net/news/2016-06-20/registration-now-open-jul….

SWAN Libraries:
After a rigorous and lengthy search process, we are very pleased to announce that we are moving forward with a new Bib Services Manager to join us as Karen Bar's replacement. Scott Brandwein will be starting with us on Monday June 20th.
Scott comes to us fresh from New York City - he just moved to Chicago about a month ago. There, he worked for many years at the New York Public Library as a Senior Cataloging Librarian as a NACO-certified cataloger working on the NACO Music Project. He also worked for Media Radar, where he supervised a team as the Managing Acquisitions Librarian and helped to create a database and cataloging procedures for newspaper, magazines and advertisements. Scott received his BA in Music History from Oberlin and his MLS from Indiana University. We are excited to add Scott's cataloging, leadership, and technology expertise to the SWAN staff.
Please join us in welcoming Scott to our team! He can be reached at the same direct phone number many of you used to contact Karen Bar, or at scott.brandwein(a)railslibraries.info<mailto:scott.brandwein@railslibraries.info> for email correspondence.

The SVA Phone Notice system is calling on the normal schedule now, and appears to have picked up missed calls from yesterday's notices.
We'll monitor the issue throughout the day and send additional SWANcoms should another disruption occur.

Subject: [SWANcom] SVA Phone Notice Outage (6/16)
SWAN Member Library Staff:
We encountered an issue with the SVA Phone Notice system yesterday that appears to have caused most scheduled notice calls to fail. We're currently investigating the issue, but should be able to resend any missed calls from the last day once the system is operating as expected. Today's calls should also go out as scheduled.
We'll submit an additional SWANcom as soon as more information is available.

Remember "linked patrons" -- Renee will be training SWAN libraries on how to use a similar (but not same) feature in WorkFlows called "User Groups" on Monday, July 25th.
Are you interested in finding out how you can join your library users into a group? Then this workshop is for you.
"User Groups" has been piloted by a SWAN library and will available on an individual library basis beginning August 1, 2016.
There are a number of options to be considered as you implement User Groups - come to learn all the details. The different policies, levels of responsibility, responsibility types and access options will be demonstrated.
