Checkouts, Renewals, and hold statistics for June

Everyone - We are in the process of posting Checkouts, Renewals, and Hold statistics to the SWAN website for the month of June. https://support.swanlibraries.net/content/2016-sirsidynix-stats I generated these very basic reports in BC Analytics in order to give you something to show your boards. Unfortunately, I can't generate them by interface. I'll try again tomorrow. We are still awaiting news on the case we have opened with SirsiDynix regarding the problem with our statistical reports this month. When we hear something you will be the first to know. SWAN Member Library Staff: Just FYI – our SirsiDynix-hosted Enterprise server did encounter a very brief service disruption this afternoon. Fortunately, it was short enough that it went largely unnoticed (likely only seconds of downtime). SirsiDynix has informed us that no further disruptions should be expected today. June statistics

When we investigated we noticed that all the statistics we had run for June were almost half the normal amount. We are in the process of investigating the source of this problem. SWAN New Employee Announcement - Member Services Consultant

SWAN Member Libraries: Over the past month, our Member Services team has been working to find the perfect replacement for retiring Consultant Extraordinaire Renee Clanton (not that she can ever be replaced!) to help you with all of your system questions, tickets, and training. We have also been aware of increasing numbers of tickets and opportunities for training since moving to our new software, and found this to be the perfect opportunity to provide even more support to our membership. Therefore, we are excited to announce that we've moved forward with the addition of not just one but two wonderful new additions to our consultant and training team. In the month of July we will have Vickie Totton starting with us on the 13th, and Crystal Vela starting on the 18th. These names may sound familiar to you! Both Vickie and Crystal have served on the SWAN Circ Advisory group for many years, and were crucial to our ILS migration process as they both were Circ Mentors who provided training on Sirsi modules to our member library staff. Additionally, Vickie was a member of the ILS Search Committee during the 16 month search process, and Crystal served on our Circulation Task Force. We feel incredibly fortunate to add such a wealth of experience to our team. Please join us in welcoming both Crystal and Vickie to the SWAN staff! *Updated* SirsiDynix Compatibility with Windows 10 and Microsoft Edge

SWAN Member Libraries & Information Technology Staff: Just as a follow-up to our post from last year, SWAN IT staff have been running Windows 10 for over six months and have not encountered any significant issues with relation to SWAN's WorkFlows or Enterprise versions. We're also aware of several member libraries that had performed the upgrade to Windows 10 on many staff computers, and they have not encountered any notable incompatibilities. That being the case, any libraries looking to upgrade to Windows 10 now, prior to the expiration of Microsoft's free upgrade offer on July 29th, should feel free to do so. If you do encounter any incompatibility issues following the upgrade to Windows 10, please be sure to report them to our ticket system at help(a)swanlibraries.net<mailto:help@swanlibraries.net> for further investigation. That being the case, abnormalities may arise, potentially in the areas of user permissions, Java functionality, and printing. SWAN staff will begin testing the new Windows platform alongside SirsiDynix as soon as possible and post any discovered issues to the "Known Issues<https://support.swanlibraries.net/content/known-issues>" page on the support site, but please know that until the platform is certified, we will be unable to troubleshoot issues to the fullest extent. The official statement regarding Windows 10 compatibility from SirsiDynix is as follows: "With the release of Windows 10 from Microsoft this week, SirsiDynix is currently working to ensure that all product applications and services are compatible with the OS and its new browser, Microsoft Edge. Our first priority is to certify Windows 10 for Enterprise, Portfolio, eResource Central, BLUEcloud PAC, e-Library, HIP, EOS.web, and Social Library. SirsiDynix recommends that sites not upgrade their staff workstations to Windows 10 until it has been certified." [Attn: Cataloging and Technical Services Staff] Pre-cat Requirements for Fiction/Nonfiction Facet

SWAN Member Libraries - As we move forward to prepare for the fiction/nonfiction facet in enterprise, it is necessary to edit an additional field when creating a pre-cat record. You will need to populate the Fiction fixed field highlighted below: [cid:image002.jpg@01D1CC8A.3E5C3B00] The fiction/nonfiction facet will be used for print and audiobooks only. Please populate the Fiction fixed field as follows: Print or Audiobook: Enter "1" for fiction material. Enter "0" for nonfiction material. All other materials: Leave this field blank. While there are a variety of codes that might appear in this fixed field in a full MARC record, this is an effort to keep the code as generic as possible while still populating the Item Category 3 correctly. Please be advised that this choice should not be based on local practice but should reflect literary form. For example, board books should be coded as fiction even if your library classifies these items as nonfiction. Accurate population of this field will allow pre-cats to be included in search results when applying the new fiction/nonfiction facet.
