This announcement pertains to one area of our Symphony global configuration that is overdue for improved security: masking personal identification numbers, or PINs. With SWAN's database of 1 million library user's information, and soon to be 1.3 million patron records, it is time to provide a minimum of privacy to our patron's accounts. What was initially a temporary measure after SWAN switched to Symphony in April 2015, instead lasted three years.
We have set Monday, April 16, 2018 as the day when PINs in Symphony will no longer be visible, but will be masked by asterisks. Please read the SWAN support site post for some background on this upcoming change.

Should a cardholder from a special or academic library attempt to use their card at a public SWAN library, that user will be blocked from circulation. This will help eliminate any accidental checkouts to these users should staff miss that this is not a public library user record. This has been a long-outstanding request that we are now happy to accommodate!
If public library staff attempt to check out to or renew items for a special or academic library cardholder, they will see the following message. Please note that this message cannot be overridden.

This is the same message that public library staff currently see when attempting to modify a special or academic library record.
Public libraries will still be able to check in materials from special or academic library cardholders.

SWAN Membership,
The Enterprise upgrade was completed this morning but we encountered some issues throughout the day today. What was encountered after the upgrade was in two main categories:
* Searches that return no results for your library profile
* Downloadable eBooks and Audiobook searches that return no results
Things appear to be stable at the moment but we ask that you remain vigilant and report any issues with searching via help(a)swanlibraries.net<mailto:help@swanlibraries.net>
