forwarding a recent ISL E-news announcement regarding grant opportunity
by Kate Boyle 19 Feb '14

19 Feb '14

Everyone - In case you might have missed the announcement, I thought I would forward this information from the ISL E-news regarding an IL Dept. of Commerce and Economic Opportunity grant for public libraries. A number of SWAN libraries qualify for this grant. "The Illinois State Library (ISL) was recently informed about a grant opportunity from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) for public libraries to receive up to $75,000 in funding to establish a Community Technology Center. To be eligible for funding, a public library must be located in a community where not less than 40 percent of students are eligible for a free or reduced price lunch under the National School Lunch Statistics; or where not less than 30 percent of students are eligible for a free lunch under the National School Lunch Statistics. ISL has already analyzed the National School Lunch Statistics data provided by DCEO and created a PDF of eligible public libraries<http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/departments/library/grants/pdfs/lib_dceo_…> that may be found with other information about the grant offering at http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/departments/library/grants/eliminatedigit…. Please review the PDF to determine your public library's eligibility status. There is a very quick turnaround time for applications as the deadline for submission to DCEO is March 14, 2014, at 5 p.m. The Illinois State Library will not be applying directly on behalf of a group of public libraries; however, the State Library will assist public libraries with any questions regarding the application and grant administration procedures. The State Library has scheduled a conference call for eligible public libraries on February 25, 2014, at 9 a.m. Please call 888-494-4032 to participate in the conference call. The access code is 3886075450. For further information, please contact ISL at 217-558-3752." *Important*: SWAN Library Thin Client Technology Survey
by Steven Schlewitt 18 Feb '14

18 Feb '14

SWAN Member Libraries & Information Technology Staff: Is your library using Thin Client Terminals for your staff workstations? If so, we want your feedback! With the possibility of a new ILS approaching, we'd like to know how you might be using Thin Client Terminals at your libraries so that we can better prepare our potential ILS vendors for support of these devices. More specifically, we'd like to know what sort of Thin Clients you're currently using and how they're configured to support the Millennium staff client installations. Depending on the results of the survey, we may also need to follow-up with your library's IT staff, so please ensure accurate contact information for this purpose. If your library does support Thin Client technologies for staff use in some capacity, please submit a survey below. https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/LWVS6KT We greatly appreciate your feedback! 18 Feb '14

Everyone - Today in delivery RAILS received a 6 book set of the Fancy Nancy I Can Read series. There were no routing labels on the books, no barcodes, or ownership stamps. This is the Fancy Nancy series by Jane O'Connor and includes My Family History, Spectacular Spectacles, The 100th Day of School, Every Day is Earth Day, Fancy Nancy and the Mean Girl, and Fancy Nancy and the Delectable Cupcakes. If these belong to your library please contact Edlyn at 630-734-5161. Thank you. Holds management---- new quirks
by Kate Boyle 13 Feb '14

13 Feb '14

+++ Please route to appropriate personnel +++ SWAN Member Services has discovered that Release 2011 triggered some new behavior with respect to holds. These changes were not mentioned by Innovative in the Release Notes, but have now been confirmed by Innovative. Please take note of the following changes that affect holds management: * Staff will now need to override the hold block when attempting to place a title level hold for a patron who currently has an item checked out on this same bib record. Staff will see an "Authorization Required" dialog box. Please click "OVERRIDE" to supersede this hold block and successfully place the hold. Initials "super", "circsr" and "circjr" are authorized to override this block. [cid:image003.jpg@01CF2896.A75FC2B0] * A selection of holds can no longer be modified as a group from Search/Holds mode after a user has sorted the hold queue by pickup point. Previously, users were able to sort by pickup point, select all holds with that same pickup point, and modify all holds by filling out one dialog box. With the newest release, this is no longer possible. From now on, please modify holds one at a time from the hold queue in Search/Holds mode. We apologize for any inconvenience. If you should have any questions please contact either Renee Clanton (630-734-5169) or Samantha Dietel (630-734-5163).
