*Reminder* Network Changes Memo #8: SWAN Server FQDN Migration

SWAN Member Libraries & Information Technology Staff: Just a reminder, tomorrow morning (Tuesday between 12am-6am) is our Fully Qualified Domain Name migration for the SWAN Production and Report servers. For additional information regarding this change, please see Network Migration Memo #8 in the link below. While we do not anticipate that regular SWAN services will be impacted, please ensure your designated IT staff is aware of the change and available for support if required. Chicago Tribune allows users to search the full-text of all articles in all editions and sections (including the RedEye) of the Chicago Tribune. Coverage of the current file is 1985 to present. The Chicago Tribune Historical Archive allows users to search the complete text of the Chicago Tribune, including classified and display advertisements, from 1849 to 1988. All participating libraries will begin their subscriptions on April 1, 2014. For libraries that have had a May 1 subscription start date on either or both Chicago Tribune current file and historical file in the past, your subscription start date will be changed to April 1 with a pro-rated 11-month subscription period. This year's pricing is only a 2.75% increase from last year. Please contact ProQuest to make arrangements for a change in start date and for specific pricing for your library. SWAN ILS Committee Final Report & Recommendation

SWAN Member Libraries: The SWAN ILS Committee is pleased to present the final written report and recommendation from the SWAN ILS Committee. This report summarizes the 15 months of research and selection process, including the scoring, cost analysis, and a recommendation on the future ILS for SWAN. >From the ILS Committee webpage: under the "Final Recommendation" section you will see a link to the report. We will review the final recommendation from the committee and the proposal from SirisDynix. SWAN will seek approval of reserve funds to pay for the proposed solutions for the SWAN consortia. SWAN will send out an agenda and meeting packet for that meeting separately. As an update, the SWAN Board approved moving forward with negotiations with SirsiDynix. These negotiations are presently underway with Melissa Gardner, SWAN Board President, Rob McGee, RMG Consulting, and Aaron Skog, SWAN Executive Director. forwarding a recent ISL E-news announcement regarding grant opportunity

Everyone - In case you might have missed the announcement, I thought I would forward this information from the ISL E-news regarding an IL Dept. of Commerce and Economic Opportunity grant for public libraries. A number of SWAN libraries qualify for this grant. "The Illinois State Library (ISL) was recently informed about a grant opportunity from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) for public libraries to receive up to $75,000 in funding to establish a Community Technology Center. To be eligible for funding, a public library must be located in a community where not less than 40 percent of students are eligible for a free or reduced price lunch under the National School Lunch Statistics; or where not less than 30 percent of students are eligible for a free lunch under the National School Lunch Statistics. ISL has already analyzed the National School Lunch Statistics data provided by DCEO and created a PDF of eligible public libraries<http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/departments/library/grants/pdfs/lib_dceo_…> that may be found with other information about the grant offering at http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/departments/library/grants/eliminatedigit…. Please review the PDF to determine your public library's eligibility status. With the possibility of a new ILS approaching, we'd like to know how you might be using Thin Client Terminals at your libraries so that we can better prepare our potential ILS vendors for support of these devices. More specifically, we'd like to know what sort of Thin Clients you're currently using and how they're configured to support the Millennium staff client installations. Fancy Nancy I can Read series

Everyone - Today in delivery RAILS received a 6 book set of the Fancy Nancy I Can Read series. There were no routing labels on the books, no barcodes, or ownership stamps. Appears to be a new acquisition that somehow ended up in a delivery bin. This is the Fancy Nancy series by Jane O'Connor and includes My Family History, Spectacular Spectacles, The 100th Day of School, Every Day is Earth Day, Fancy Nancy and the Mean Girl, and Fancy Nancy and the Delectable Cupcakes. Announcement: SWAN Bibliographic Services Manager

SWAN Member Libraries: We are pleased to announce an addition to the SWAN team. Karen Bar will be starting with us on Monday, March 3rd as the new Bibliographic Services Manager. Karen brings a wealth of experience to SWAN in this role with 15 years as a librarian, three of them as a SWAN member at Oak Park Public Library. Tony Siciliano has graciously offered to stay on for a few weeks to help train Karen and show her the ropes, before he officially leaves SWAN at the end of March. We hope that you will join us in welcoming Karen to the SWAN staff! We are confident that she will prove a valuable addition to SWAN and our members.
