Member Libraries-
Prairie Trails Library is without internet due to a line being knocked down outside their building. This is affecting their connection to SWAN.
We will give an update when it has been restored.

+++ Route to ILL personnel +++
I just wanted to remind all the SWAN libraries that use OCLC to request ILL materials and journal articles that the deadline to transition to the new WorldShare ILL software is fast approaching - May 19th.
Please see the OCLC website for more information and various training webinars. http://www.oclc.org/worldshare-ill.en.html
Have a good week.

SWAN Member Libraries & Information Technology Staff:
A sigh of relief is in order, as the SWAN Network Migration Project has concluded successfully! Over the last nine months, SWAN has accomplished the network reconfiguration that has been on our radars for some time. Granted, there will be some additional clean-up in the upcoming months moving non-essential services to our new network, but the server migration and configuration of the new network (the aspects that directly involve our member libraries) is now complete.
Here are a few of the benefits we're now observing as a result of the migration...
1. IP addressing scheme - SWAN servers now have the appropriate internal and external IP addressing to allow network independence and greater flexibility for future configuration.
2. Swanlibries.net domain - All servers have been migrated to the new Swanlibraries.net domain, so that MLS/SLS addresses can be permanently retired.
3. Firewall hardware - SWAN servers are connected to new SonicWall hardware, allowing enhanced security functions and extended support.
4. FQDN support - Many 3rd party vendor services and hardware now reference SWAN servers via the Fully Qualified Domain Name as opposed to the IP address, allowing flexibility in future IP and server changes.
5. Improved aliased email service - Aliased emails can now be changed via a form on our support.swanlibraries.net homepage, and are managed through a much more reliable service.
Is there anything we could have done differently? Could we have done anything better, or were there any aspects of the project you especially appreciated? Your feedback is important to me!
If you'd like to provide feedback about the project, please email us at feedback(a)swanlibraries.net<mailto:feedback@swanlibraries.net>. If you have any questions regarding the migration or outstanding issues, please feel free to contact me directly at the address and number listed below.
On behalf of the SWAN Support and IT staff, thank you for all of your help and patience throughout the Network Migration Project! We couldn't have done this without your support!

At this time, it appears all issues relating to the Quick Clicks system and associated vendors have been resolved. In addition, aside from some intermittent connection issues we're working through at several libraries, all other issues relating to the Network Migration have been resolved. Please reach out to our help desk at 630.734.5153 should you encounter any new issues, or if your issues remain unresolved.
We thank you for your patience throughout the troubleshooting process.

Subject: *Update* Baker & Taylor Issues Following Network Migration
SWAN Member Libraries -
Just to give a quick update, most widespread issues relating to the Network Migration have been resolved, including access to Baker & Taylor's Axis360.
However, we're continuing to troubleshoot issues with Innovative's Quick Clicks system. This issue affects Quick Clicks ordering via several major vendors, including Baker & Taylor, Brodart, Ingram, Midwest Tapes, and Innovate Ecommerce.
We're continuing to work with these vendors to find a solution as soon as possible. We greatly appreciate your continued patience, and we'll keep you informed as soon as new information is available.
Thank you,

SWAN Member Libraries & IT Staff
Several members have inquired about the recently discovered Heart Bleed SSL Vulnerability, and how this might affect SWAN servers and patron data. Earlier this week, it was determined that SWAN is currently running a version of SSL that is unaffected by this attack. We also verified this through several SSL vulnerability check utilities. While we will continue to monitor the situation and perform additional testing to ensure our network and patron data is appropriately secured, it appears that no vulnerabilities relating to the Heart Bleed bug are present on the SWAN servers or network at this time.
While SWAN may be secure, however, we do recommend that you check with your other library and personal services to ensure that your passwords are secure. Just as a few examples, the following major websites have been affected by this bug...
- GMAIL - Instagram
- YAHOO - Flickr
- Facebook - Netflix
- Youtube - Dropbox
Thank you to the members that have reached out to us regarding this issue, and please feel free to contact me should you have any further questions regarding SWAN security.
