The Illinois State Library is proposing rules changes to the Library System Act, and there is currently a public comment process available online. There are some significant changes being proposed, and they are worthy of your time. This public comment phase ends on Monday, August 18th. My understanding of the next steps are as follows: 1. The draft rules changes (with possible changes based on the public comment period included) will be presented to the Illinois State Library Advisory Committee (ISLAC) in September. After the committee's approval, it will go to the General Assembly's Joint Committee on Administrative Rules (JCAR). The RAILS comments in the document are very insightful and provide a detailed analysis of the proposed changes. My apologies again for any cross-posting of information.
