R2011 announcement and release notes (Upgrade Memo #2)

+++ Please route to appropriate staff+++ Everyone - Please review the attached documents for information regarding the planned upgrade to SWAN scheduled for early next Wednesday morning, January 29th. We have added a message to the WebPAC to alert your early morning patrons to the planned downtime for the upgrade. We have also requested that Innovative add the same message to Encore. Any libraries using self-check workstations and/or an AMH (automated materials handler) should shutdown this hardware at closing on Tuesday night, January 28th and bring it back online after the upgrade is completed. We anticipate the upgrade being completed and access available to SWAN by 8 a.m., if all goes well. Please make certain that your morning Circulation staff are familiar with "Offline Circ" in case SWAN is not available on time. We will be announcing via a SWANcom and the SWAN website when you can begin to log in on Wednesday morning, January 29th. Thank you all for your cooperation in getting the installer downloads completed on time. Your timely assistance makes this project easier to bring to a successful completion. SWAN Member Libraries & IT Staff: Today is the final day to complete your Millennium R2011 Client installation and submit your Completion Report! The remainder of our week will be spent reconciling installation issues or missed installations, followed by the server cutover next Wednesday morning (January 29th). If your library has encountered issues and has been unable to complete the installation, please contact our helpdesk as soon as possible so that we can assist to resolve the issue. Otherwise, please ensure that your library has submitted the completion report, as this is how we will determine if your VPN connection can be restored following the upgrade next Wednesday. SWAN Retirement Announcement

SWAN Member Libraries: Mary Lou Coffman has informed me that she will be retiring from SWAN on January 31st. Mary Lou began working at SWAN in 1994 within SWAN's Database Maintenance department and was a key contributor to the ILS migration from GEAC to Innovative Interface's INNOPAC. Over the years Mary Lou has utilized her extensive knowledge of catalog record data and other areas of the Millennium ILS accessible to custom reports. Mary Lou has been the "go-to" person for our member libraries that needed a better understanding of how data can better serve them, and has provided numerous workshops and one-on-one training over the years. She has focused on many projects over her tenure at SWAN, managing a wide variety of areas on behalf of the consortium, including the deployment of Millennium Patron Images and Digital Signatures. I am sure I might be forgetting something... she has done A LOT! Mary Lou will work with the Illinois State Board of Education, focusing on the area of serving children within the autism spectrum. Over the next several weeks Mary Lou will continue to coordinate our Release 2011 upgrade, among other projects. She and I will work to transition areas of our services she oversees.
