SWAN Libraries,
This announcement pertains to one area of our Symphony global configuration that is
overdue for improved security: masking personal identification numbers, or PINs. With
SWAN's database of 1 million library user's information, and soon to be 1.3
million patron records, it is time to provide a minimum of privacy to our patron's
accounts. What was initially a temporary measure after SWAN switched to Symphony in April
2015, instead lasted three years.
We have set Monday, April 16, 2018 as the day when PINs in Symphony will no longer be
visible, but will be masked by asterisks. Please read the SWAN support site post for some
background on this upcoming change.
