SWAN Member Libraries & Information Technology Staff:
Microsoft Windows 10 is here, and I know many IT administrators are excited to get it installed and running at your local libraries; however, we ask that you exercise caution when upgrading to the new platform, as it has not yet been fully tested and certified for compatibility with our version of SirsiDynix WorkFlows or the Enterprise OPAC. That being the case, abnormalities may arise, potentially in the areas of user permissions, Java functionality, and printing. SWAN staff will begin testing the new Windows platform alongside SirsiDynix as soon as possible and post any discovered issues to the "Known Issues<https://support.swanlibraries.net/content/known-issues>" page on the support site, but please know that until the platform is certified, we will be unable to troubleshoot issues to the fullest extent.
The official statement regarding Windows 10 compatibility from SirsiDynix is as follows:
"With the release of Windows 10 from Microsoft this week, SirsiDynix is currently working to ensure that all product applications and services are compatible with the OS and its new browser, Microsoft Edge. Our first priority is to certify Windows 10 for Enterprise, Portfolio, eResource Central, BLUEcloud PAC, e-Library, HIP, EOS.web, and Social Library.
SirsiDynix recommends that sites not upgrade their staff workstations to Windows 10 until it has been certified."
If you have any questions about WorkFlows compatibility or are running Windows 10 and have an experience to share, please email the SWAN IT team at it(a)swanlibraries.net<mailto:it@swanlibraries.net>.
Thank you,
Steven Schlewitt

Hi Ian,
This is nothing pressing because we are still a little bit away from introducing self-check out here at SFS, but upon testing the self-pay module, it didn't seem to want to proceed forward to allow for a patron to pay for any fines. No error messages popped up, it just didn't do anything.
I was curious if there was any lines in the config files that needed to be changed so that this worked properly?
Again, this is not urgent at the moment, but if you can let me know at your convenience if there is something that should be added to make this work, it would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Marcos J. Arellano

I am happy to report that the Oak Park collection has also been reestablished, and all libraries with eRC content should have complete access through Enterprise. SWAN and SirsiDynix will continue to monitor eRC collections.

Subject: [SwanTech] UPDATE: Overdrive Content in eResource Central
I have received a progress report from SirsiDynix. At this time, most library collections have been corrected. The Oak Park Public Library is still missing the shared Overdrive collection on their profile, though the Advantage titles are appearing normally. SD Support is continuing to work towards a resolution for their collection. All other libraries should see all of their econtent at this time.
To confirm your collection’s presence in your profile:
· Navigate to your library’s public profile (catalog.swanlibraries.net/xxx where xxx is your three letter code)
· Select “Digital Catalog” from the search target box (first drop down)
· Click Search without entering search terms to see a complete list of your econtent.
You will see the total count for all vendors at the top of your results (# results found), as well as counts by Electronic Format in the first facet on the left side of the screen.
At this time, the SD Support team is not sure why this issue affected some libraries but not others. Both SD Support and SWAN will continue to monitor these collections. As always, if you observe any issues with your collections, please email help(a)swanlibraries.net<mailto:help@swanlibraries.net> so we can investigate.

This morning I spoke with the manager of discovery support at SirsiDynix. They have identified a resolution for this issue and are working through the list of affected libraries to correct the problem. Acorn Public Library should now be seeing all expected Overdrive content in Enterprise.
I have requested an estimate on completing the work for the rest of the libraries, and will send both the estimate and a list of the newly corrected collections by the end of the day.

To answer the questions I received since sending the initial email on Friday:
· Is there anything we (library staff or SWAN staff) need to do to add new titles to our eRC collections? No. The process is automated. When titles are added to your econtent collections with supported vendors, an import process it automatically triggered for eRC. When working correctly, the items are imported into the eRC admin console that SWAN administers, and then automatically added to the Digital Catalog of the proper Enterprise profile.
· Can you clarify whether it is recently added titles that are not appearing or give more information on how the collections are behaving? Based on my Friday conversation with SirsiDynix support, the problem is with the indexing portion of the import process. The collections are reindexed as part of automated processes mentioned above. Somewhere during that process, the indexes for some libraries’ Overdrive collections were damaged, leaving them unusable. From what I can tell, no titles from the collections with bad indexes are appearing in Enterprise. Some of the affected libraries will still see Overdrive content in their profiles because their Advantage collections have a separate, properly functioning, index.
I will stay in touch with SirsiDynix support this afternoon, and will send another update by the end of the day.

This evening I spoke with SirsiDynix Support and learned that they are aware of the issue and have already escalated it to development and given it high priority. A number of customers in addition to SWAN are impacted by this problem. A list of affected SWAN libraries is below.
The issue is in the import and indexing of the eRC titles. When new titles are added and the collection reindexes, somehow the indexes are becoming corrupted. During my conversation with support I asked if libraries should suspend purchasing of new ebooks if possible, but was advised that it is not necessary.
At this time, the issue appears to be isolated to Overdrive collections. While titles are not accessible to users via Enterprise, Overdrive collections at mediaondemand.org<http://mediaondemand.org>, mymediamall.net<http://mymediamall.net> and emedialibrary.lib.overdrive.com<http://emedialibrary.lib.overdrive.com> are available in their entirety.
We do not yet have an expected resolution date, stay in contact with SirsiDynix regarding new developments. We expect to have more information on Monday.

Subject: Overdrive Content in eResource Central
To SWAN Library Staff:
Last week, one library reported missing Overdrive content from their eRC collection in Enterprise, which we were able to remedy. Today two libraries made similar reports. After receiving the reports, I began checking other libraries in the Media On Demand group and found that several libraries are missing the shared collection from their profiles. It appears that advantage collections are not being impacted.
I have opened a high priority case with SirsiDynix to investigate the cause of this issue. It does not appear to be related to today’s Enterprise login issues.
At this time, I do not have a complete list of affected libraries. I am continuing to test profiles. So far, I have observed that
· BCS, BIS, BWS, BVS, HSS, have their content.
· ADS, BPS, BYS, MDS, OLS, OPS, and WRS are missing content.
If your Enterprise profile appears to be missing content, please send a ticket to help(a)swanlibraries.net<mailto:help@swanlibraries.net>.
We will continue to work with SirsiDynix to identify a cause and implement a solution. I will send updates as they become available.

It does not appear to be related to today's Enterprise login issues.
At this time, I do not have a complete list of affected libraries. I am continuing to test profiles. So far, I have observed that
* BCS, BIS, BWS, BVS, HSS, have their content.
* ADS, BPS, BYS, MDS, OLS, OPS, and WRS are missing content.
If your Enterprise profile appears to be missing content, please send a ticket to help(a)swanlibraries.net<mailto:help@swanlibraries.net>.
We will continue to work with SirsiDynix to identify a cause and implement a solution. I will send updates as they become available.

Issues with Enterprise logins are now resolved.
The issue today relates to a secure method of server authentication occurring between the Enterprise and Symphony servers. We'll continue to monitor the situation and send a SWANcom if any further downtime or issues are anticipated.

We have had a number of requests for a Tech Services Department card for materials that are currently housed in that department for repairs, etc. Please note that you all should currently have a REPAIR user, an ONORDER user, and an INPROC user. If you feel that you would benefit from having another, unique Tech Services Department card that will assign a current location of TECH_DEPT, we can configure that for you. When materials are checked out to a user with a profile of TECH_DEPT, the following will be true:
* Items will display with a current location of TECH_DEPT.
* The due date will be never.
* Items will not be holdable.
* Bills will not generate for these items.
* The "total charges" counter in the item record will not increment.
If you currently have a Tech Services Department card and want the above statements to be true for that user account, please send an email to help(a)swanlibraries.net<mailto:help@swanlibraries.net>, and we will give you access to the TECH_DEPT user profile. If you do not have a Tech Services Department card but would like one, please send in those requests as well.
Should you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us. Thank you!

Just to elaborate on the outage somewhat - our work last night related to the upcoming retirement of the Millennium servers, as it allowed us to allocate additional server hardware resources from the Millennium servers to the Symphony WorkFlows servers. The additional resources for Symphony WorkFlows servers ensures increased stability and more flexibility for upcoming SWAN IT system projects.

Everyone -
Just a reminder that SWAN staff are at the RAILS staff retreat in Bloomington/Normal tomorrow. There will be Versatile personnel during the day in the computer room to answer your calls to 630-734-5153. Evening coverage of the computer room will be provided by Unique (this is the company that provides our coverage on the weekend). Overdues and notices will be processed as usual. Feel free to open tickets with any questions or concerns you may have.
For those of you who are wondering, this does not impact delivery to SWAN libraries. All SWAN libraries will get their usual delivery.

Everyone -
Just a reminder about the Symphony "Guts" Training kicking off this week. Just what is Symphony GUTS, you may ask. Everyone in libraries loves acronyms GUTS - Greater Understanding of The System, perhaps. Or an explanation of the "guts" of the SWAN software? I prefer to think of it as an explanation of the "butterfly effect" - how what happens in this part of the software, effects the behavior in this part of the software. However, you prefer to think of it, we will be sharing our understanding of how the Symphony software works.
Topics include: migration and mapping, Circulation configuration (Circ Map and Hold Map), Cataloging configuration (Item types, item categories, and locations), Enterprise (facets, searching, harvesting).
Above all there will be an opportunity for you to ask questions.
There are numerous opportunities to attend a session, including the opportunity to attend the online webinar on August 6th. Click on the links to register.

Based on feedback received from SWAN Member Libraries, Item Category 1 UNKNOWN is being changed to Item Category 1 MISCELLANEOUS. Item Category 1 MISC has already been added to the library policy lists so catalogers may begin to use this immediately. Item Category 1 UNKNOWN will be removed from the policy lists today and will no longer be an option when you log in tomorrow. I will be updating this Item Category for all relevant items later today and dynamic indexing will complete overnight.
Please contact me if you have any questions.
