regarding a certain rumored retirement

+++ Please share with Appropriate Personnel +++ Very often we hear rumors and they turn out not to be true. But sadly for us in this case the rumor is true, Renee Clanton is retiring from SWAN. After only 30+ years, Renee has tendered her resignation to SWAN notifying us that her last day will by July 31st , 2016. So, the good news is we have four months to try and find her replacement. And the bad news is, we have only 4 months to try and find her replacement. If you are a person in Circulation you have either met Renee at a meeting, spoken to her over the phone, or attended one the numerous workshops she has presented. Renee has been solving problems for Circulation staff at SWAN libraries for over 30 years, to say she will be missed is an understatement (probably one of the biggest understatements of all time). Plans for a reception honoring Renee's contribution to SWAN is in the planning stages. We will be certain to keep everyone in the loop as we firm up a date. FW: Circulation training for Circ Support Staff

+++ Please route to Appropriate Personnel +++ Over the next few weeks, a select group of Circulation Managers from SWAN libraries will be presenting workshops for Circulation Support staff . As some of you may recall, these Managers are the same people that presented the highly successful Circ Du SWAN program a few years ago. Written in conjunction with SWAN Member Services, the program will cover User Registration, Holds and Holds processing, Patron Notices, Bills and everything we have learned over the last year about SirsiDynix WorkFlows. The good news is there is still time to register and of course the workshop is free! These workshops are being presented not only at the System Headquarters, but also at two local libraries (Frankfort PLD and Eisenhower PLD ) Eisenhower is even hosting one in the evening (6 PM – 8:30 PM) for those staff that find it hard to make a traditional morning or afternoon workshop. SWAN Board Election Update - Announcement of Candidates

Good morning SWAN Libraries: Now that the self-nomination window has ended, we are pleased to announcement our candidates for the 2016 Board election. We received Statements of Interest from the following candidates for your consideration in the upcoming election: Kristina Howard, Prairie State College; Doug Losey, Hillside Public Library; and Tiffany Verzani, Elmwood Park Public Library. Announcing SWAN Spring Forward workshops for Circulation Support Staff

SWAN Member Services is pleased to announce a new training opportunity for Circulation Support Staff. Topics being discussed include: User Registration, Holds, Notices, and Billing. SMS text messages test ok

After extensive testing yesterday and today by SWAN Member Services, we are happy to report that all carriers are forwarding SMS text messages to their users. We have tested messages to: AT&T, Republic, Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon, and Virgin Mobile phones. All of these messages were delivered. If anyone is still encountering a problem, please let us know. Text messaging

Everyone - I regret to inform everyone but the "Throttling Fix" that was scheduled for last Thursday was not fully implemented by SirsiDynix. SirsiDynix has advised us that they will be implementing the "Throttling Fix" sometime this week. We will let everyone know as soon as we are advised the "Fix" is completed. In addition, SirsiDynix is still pursuing a new vendor to process text messages. The "Fix" is just a temporary measure to help alleviate the problem. Another twist was identified today by SWAN staff in testing - it appears that only Verizon customers are actually receiving text messages. We have tested sending Manual Messages via SMS text to several staff members and anyone with Sprint, AT&T, T-Mobile, and Virgin carriers did not receive their text message. This situation has been reported to SirsiDynix and a ticket opened in their support center. As we receive more information on this newly identified problem, we will let you know via SWANcom. SWAN Member Libraries: The news I have for you today is that SWAN's Bibliographic Services Manager Karen Bar is leaving SWAN for a new life in the Florida Keys. I think that we can all agree Karen has earned this relocation through her tireless efforts in leading us through the consortia software migration. SWAN will begin its search for our next manager starting today as we still have a few months before Karen finally relocates. We do not have a final date yet set for Karen as she has offered SWAN some flexibility so we can find a new replacement. In addition to this position opening at SWAN, I wanted to highlight another opening for a full-time cataloging position within SWAN. SWAN Member Services March update

Everyone- Just a brief update on Circulation. Yesterday, Sirsi Dynix implemented a "Throttling Fix" to the processing of SMS text messaging. This should correct the problem of some text messages being dropped. Please continue to let us know if your patrons report any problems with not receiving their "hold pickup" notices in particular. As a reminder, Spanish and Polish notices were implemented on Feb. 1st. We have seen a definite increase in the number of notices being generated in both languages. Please, promote this with your patrons and if you need any other languages open a ticket. Earlier this week, SWAN tweaked the settings in Workflows holds processing in order to enable the Holds Pull List in MobileCirc. This should be transparent to everyone. If you see or experience anything different, please let us know by opening a ticket. The MobileCirc Faire yesterday was a huge success judging from the comments we have heard. The next MobileCirc Faire is March 23rd at 1:00 PM. There are still a few seats left. You can register at : http://www.librarylearning.info/admin/roster.aspx?eventID=22287 . Please feel free to register staff from multiple departments. You may come regardless of whether your library has purchased any hardware. The Powerpoint of the workshop should be available on the SWAN website this afternoon. The new version of the SWAN Circulation Policy was approved in November and is available on the SWAN website. SWAN Board Election: Self-Nominations Now Open!

SWAN Library Directors and Administrators: We are pleased to announce the start of the 2016 SWAN Board election process. SWAN will have three open at-large position on the Board starting July 1, 2016. The SWAN Board is comprised of seven library directors elected from our SWAN member libraries. Board member responsibilities include: * Acting on issues affecting the long-term future of SWAN * Monitoring SWAN's finances and the overall financial health of SWAN * Maintaining open lines of communication with the SWAN membership Since our open seats are all at-large now, any director can submit a statement of interest for this election. The goal is to have an open process and at the same time ensure that all SWAN membership is represented during elections. *Important* Enterprise OPAC Issues with Firefox Web Browser

SWAN Member Libraries and Information Technology Staff: We're currently investigating an issue that is only occurring with the Firefox web browser. Some patrons and staff are receiving a "Secure Connection Failed" error from the Firefox browser when accessing the catalog, although we have verified that catalog pages are loading as expected with all other browsers (Internet Explorer, Chrome, etc). We hope to have this issue resolved immediately and will send further SWANcoms as soon as information is available.
