**UPDATED** Call Numbers Changed in Tuesday's Batchload

We have generated the necessary fix for the call number issue that has affected some serial and on-order records. With the current technical issues we are experiencing, however, we will not be running these changes until tomorrow (Friday) morning. The fix is expected to affect 52,000 items, after which we will assess whether further work is required. Again, thank you all for your patience while we resolve this. *Update* Symphony/WorkFlows search issues on 7/5

SWAN Member Library Staff: The Symphony/WorkFlows server is back online and available for access, so please sign in at your earliest convenience. We are not anticipating any further downtime this evening. We are continuing to see some searching issues, however. These search issues seem to primarily impact searches by ISBN in the WorkFlows client. We’ve investigated the issue with SirsiDynix support and believe it should be resolved with tonight’s regularly scheduled overnight maintenance reports. We’ll send additional news via SWANcom/support post as updates become available. We are also taking this opportunity to begin collecting authority records for genre terms and medical subject headings (MeSH), which were not previously part of our database. The bibliographic enhancement includes many small fixes to various fields, but the most compelling of these are: 1. Updated Access Points -- Previously, when name, title, and subject authority headings changed, we would receive updated authority records, but our bibliographic records would not be reflect the new headings. These headings are now being converted to their authoritative forms, which should enhance the searching experience in both WorkFlows and Enterprise. 2. RDA Conversion -- We are also updating all records cataloged according to older rulesets to the current RDA standard. For now changes will be mostly cosmetic for a more uniform user experience, but this conversion opens doors for us to use our database in new ways going forward. Please note that this new bibliographic processing is also a part of our continuing MARCIVE service, and all newly-cataloged records will receive the same treatment. Therefore, it is not necessary to change your copy cataloging workflow in any way. As this process requires considerable changes to the Symphony database indexes, some server downtime is required, which will affect most Symphony services. Please see the list below for the specific services impacted. - Symphony ILS Services – Complete outage after library close Tuesday evening (7/3) through Wednesday (7/4). These services include: * WorkFlows (staff working on the holiday must use Offline mode for checkout; no check-ins please) * SIP2 connected hardware (AMH, self-check) * SIP2 connected library software (PC reservation, print release) - Symphony Web Services and External Authentication Services – Intermittent outages late Tuesday evening (7/3) through Wednesday (7/4) that will impact the following services: * Enterprise My Account functions (including payments) * Enterprise material availability * Digital media/eRC/reference databases * BookMyne * MobileCirc - BLUEcloud Analytics harvests will be suspended from July 4th (early morning) until July 6th (early morning) while the rebuild runs. Introducing New Member Services Support Specialist, Michael Szarmach

Hello SWAN Member Libraries, We have an exciting staffing announcement for you all. We have officially hired Michael Szarmach to join the SWAN team. Michael will be joining us starting on Monday, July 2nd. He will become our second Support Specialist for the Member Services team, working alongside Dave Pacin. Many of you may already recognize Michael's name, as he was a crucial team member during our recent New19 migration while working as a support specialist on the MAGIC staff. He brings to us a wealth of consortial experience from his 12 years of working with MAGIC. He also has 7 years of experience working in library circulation at Bartlett Public Library. Having enjoyed the benefits of Michael working alongside the SWAN staff for almost a year already, we are looking forward with enthusiasm to him officially joining the SWAN team! Upon further investigation, we found this slowness was again due to a runaway system process relating to the MobileCirc client. We’d previously escalated the matter with SirsiDynix support engineers but have been unsuccessful in resolving the bug. That being the case, we’ve decided to temporarily suspend access to MobileCirc until we’re able to fully resolve the issue. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this may cause and we will send additional updates via this news post as soon as it comes in. Sad News for the SWAN Family

SWAN Membership, We just received news that Kate Boyle, SWAN Member Services Manager, passed away this afternoon after an illness. As many of you know Kate worked tirelessly for 39 years serving Illinois libraries. I will share additional information when it becomes available. SWAN staff are understandably upset, and we ask your understanding in the coming days as we work to wrap our heads around this news.
