2nd Reminder: Voting Open for SWAN Joining Fee Recommendation

Library Directors/Administrators, Reminder: The electronic voting on the SWAN Joining Fee is underway. The recommendation and electronic ballot is online at the link below. https://support.swanlibraries.net/news/2018-09-11/voting-open-approve-swan-… For a detailed background, please refer to the SWAN Quarterly meeting, which has the meeting packet, video recording, and presentation online. Refer to page 37 of the meeting packet for information on the Joining Fee recommendation. https://support.swanlibraries.net/news/2018-09-07/summary-september-6-2018-… This vote requires 2/3 of SWAN library directors/administrators to vote in the affirmative to pass. This vote will set the Joining Fee amount for Green Hills Public Library District. Enterprise Upgrade/Downtime Thursday, September 20th, 12 a.m.

Enterprise Stability Issues Update 9/14

SWAN Libraries, I wanted to update everyone on the ongoing instability issues with Enterprise. We continue to work with SirsiDynix software engineers and hosting support staff on the stability issues that arose in July. The software fixes for these issues require SirsiDynix's Enterprise software developers to create a patch (or multiple patches) for Enterprise 5.0 for all customers. Unfotunately SWAN has been hit hard by this bug. Until these software fixes are written by SirsiDynix, we have taken the following steps: * SWAN IT is alerted automatically when Enterprise experiences any outage * SirsiDynix hosting monitors for any unresponsive Enterprise, and will automatically restart SWAN's Enterprise * SirsiDynix hosting has instituted daily restarts of Enterprise during non-business hours as a step to improve stability * SWAN is monitoring all Enterprise patch releases for software fixes, and will prioritize these updates. We are on version 5.0.0.6 at the moment (updated 8/21), with 5.0.0.7 planned for 9/20. It is likely this resolution will require multiple fixes. The issues are specific to Tomcat memory, which results in these brief 5-10 minute outages being random. Due to this, *we ask that library staff wait 15 minutes after you first notice the catalog being unresponsive before calling SWAN or submitting a support ticket.* The truth is we are alerted immediately and probably know it is happening before you do. We will only send out a SWANcom should the Enterprise outage last longer than 15 minutes. This situation is frustrating for us as well.
