SWAN Member Libraries and Information Technology Staff:
With the hopes to encourage participation at our SWANtech meeting next week, we've decided to eliminate the travel time! The upcoming SWANtech meeting on Thursday, July 24th will be hosted exclusively as an online Fuze webinar and conference call, instead of on-location at Burr Ridge. Attendees of our SWANtech webinar will still have every opportunity to participate in the discussion, and the web aspect of the conference will serve to provide our presentation slides. The best part is, you can conference-in from anywhere with a computer, internet connection, and headset or phone!
The Meeting URL listed below can be used to view the slideshow presentation as well as participate in the discussion (with necessary headset or speakers and microphone). For those of you without a headset, the audio portion of webinar can be accessed via the conference number below.

Everyone-
As you may be aware, William Leonard PLD, has temporarily closed its doors due to lack of funds. We have made their collection not holdable by other SWAN patrons. In addition, William Leonard patrons are blocked from placing holds online.
Unfortunately, we have no additional information for you other than they hope to re-open the library as soon as they receive their funds from the State (around September). Sorry, but I have no directive from William Leonard regarding patron whose cards expire in the interim. If you should have any questions, don't hesitate to call me.

Subject: *Action Required*: SWAN Library Hardware and Peripherals Survey
Importance: High
SWAN Member Libraries and IT Staff:
With the contracts for our new ILS signed and the introductions completed, SWAN staff have started full speed ahead into the ILS migration project. Our first order of business is to inventory and catalog various aspects of our libraries to ensure a smooth transition later down the road. That being the case, we need your help!
In the upcoming months, SWAN will be seeking your input to accurately inventory your vendor hardware, services, and policies that integrate with the ILS. Similar to our Network Migration Project, SWAN staff will use this information to ensure our vendors are prepared for the ILS migration and that any specific configuration settings are set long before the go-live date.
Our first inquiry in this matter is in the form of the survey below...
SWAN Hardware and Peripherals Survey
http://fs8.formsite.com/SWANServices/form157/index.html
Please provide responses as accurately as possible. To ensure timely responses, we request that one survey for each library is submitted by the deadline of Friday, July 18th, 2014.
You can check to see if your library has responded at the following link...

SWAN Libraries-
Ever wish you could take a break from work and go shopping at the mall? Well now you can!!!
The SWAN Idea Mall<https://support.swanlibraries.net/documentation/members-only/1139> is open for business!!!
But we need your help in stocking our stores!!
The Idea Mall is designed to bring SWAN libraries together so they can share and develop new ideas for their libraries. You can find the Idea Mall here<https://support.swanlibraries.net/content/idea-mall-2>, or visit our website support.swanlibraries.net<http://support.swanlibraries.net/> and locate the Idea Mall in the orange menu bar.
We need to increase the inventory in our stores, so browse around our shops here<https://support.swanlibraries.net/content/idea-mall-2> and
get some ideas percolating on what your library would like to contribute!
Send in those ideas, pictures, pamphlets, documents, etc. via our helpdesk here<http://support.swanlibraries.net/otrs/customer.pl>
or email us at help(a)swanlibraries.net<mailto:help@swanlibraries.net>
We are also creating a listing of SWAN library social media pages, please see our Social Media Outlet<https://support.swanlibraries.net/documentation/members-only/1115> and send us your information.
If you have an idea for a new store please let us know, we still have some vacant stores available in the mall.
Thank you for helping us get this off the ground, and happy shopping!!

We recently received the following message (in italics) from Robin Woodsome at ICN, and thought it would be of great interest to libraries that rely on T1 connections for internet service. Even if you are currently running a Comcast Business line, this option may be beneficial to create some redundancy in your connections to prevent extended outages. If you're interested in exploring this, you can contact Robin directly:

"I have some news which I would like to share with your libraries. AT&T is providing very aggressive pricing on MetroEthernet service for E-Rate eligible sites which includes K12 schools and libraries. Sites do not need to participate in the E-Rate program to receive the new pricing. One library's quote was $277 per month for a 10Mbps ASE Ethernet circuit which is the same price of an AT&T T1 circuit of 1.5Mbps.
Given this recent pricing change, I recommend that any libraries with a T1 circuit request pricing on AT&T ASE Ethernet service if they are interested in upgrading. There are not early termination penalties when a site upgrades from T1 to ME service. I can also provide quotes on ICN bandwidth levels available through the State allocation. I invite people to contact me for additional information and help in securing quotes from AT&T.
Additional information on AT&T T1 service:
* AT&T is sun setting T1 and DS3 service over the next 6 years
* Timeline is not finalized but we can expect that T1 and DS3 service will not be available by 2020, and perhaps as early as 2018
* A more specific timeline is being developed by AT&T and will be publicized as soon as available
* ICN constituents may continue to order T1 service on the state contract but only for 36 month terms
* T1 customers will receive a "withdrawal of service" notice at least 12 months prior to the cancellation of the T1/DS3 service
* Current T1 contracts may be renewed under the 36 month term option"
Please feel free to forward this to any interested parties. If you follow up on this, I'd love to hear how it goes.
Thank you,
