New YouTube tutorial troubleshooting your Mentor experience

++ Please share with appropriate personnel ++ Everyone - In talking to member library staff recently we have identified two issues that may impact staff user experience with Mentor. They are both related to the browser : * pop-up blocker * compatibility settings As to your choice of browser, according to SirsiDynix the preferred browser is Internet Explorer. However, a number of our libraries have reported success using Firefox. Lauren has created a short YouTube tutorial on updating your compatibility settings in Explorer along with how to turn off your pop-up blocker. There are a number of areas of the survey we anticipate requires some discussion within your library. *Extended* SWAN Self-Check Software Group Purchase

Good news, everyone - Thanks to the many libraries that have already submitted their purchase commitments, we've now established the minimum number of libraries necessary for the group discount! This is terrific news, not only because we're now guaranteed the discounted purchase price of $2500 per library, but because we can also extend our purchase commitment period into the month of December for any libraries needing a little extra time to coordinate. If you're still on the fence about joining the EnvisionWare One-Stop 2.0 group purchase, please let me know so that we can discuss the details further. If you're currently running Millennium Express Lane in your library and have not committed to join in on the purchase, please note that this will be SWAN's only offering as a replacement self-check for the Express Lane software. When we migrate to the SirsiDynix ILS in April of 2015, the Millennium Express Lane software will no longer function. And while our libraries are certainly welcome to pursue alternative vendors for a replacement outside of this group purchase, SWAN will only be coordinating the group/discounted purchase with EnvisionWare at this time. Correction to my COW presentation yesterday on Mentor Management

First and foremost colleagues, I need to apologize for providing yesterday's attendees of the COW meeting with misinformation. No excuses, I screwed up. Suffice it to say, I am thoroughly embarrassed about the error and regret any impact this lack of complete information may have caused you. What I failed to mention yesterday was the second step to be completed after you have assigned other staff in your library a "user management" role. After enabling the new "user management" permissions either the library director or the new mentor needs to edit the profiles of any library staff members for which they will assume oversight. In the staff member profile, update the information in the Mentor Manager: field to the new information. SWAN PR & Marketing - Tools for Migration

Hello Member Libraries, As mentioned at today's Committee of the Whole meeting, SWAN has formed a PR & Marketing task force to help create marketing materials for both library staff and patrons regarding our upcoming migration. We are working diligently on a variety of materials and have a few things to share. First, if you would like to include a PR blurb into your fall newsletters to patrons, here is a short message that we have created for your use: New Library Catalog Coming This Spring Members who enjoy using the library catalog to find and order books will have a lot more to like, starting this spring. Your Name Library, in connection with other public libraries in the SWAN library consortium, will switch over to a new software system in April 2015. The catalog will be easier to search and will offer many new features to enhance your library experience. Our newsletter and other member communications will provide more details as they become available. Using your library is about to get even better. Other PR tools that will be coming out for you in the coming months: * A clickable migration image for your catalog. When clicked, this image will bring your patron to a SWAN migration FAQ page, which we will continually update as questions arise. * A monthly newsletter for library staff, beginning in January 2015, with pertinent migration info such as training dates, expectations, answers to common questions, and tips to share with patrons. This will be sent to you in a PDF version so that you can share it with your staff electronically or via printed copy. * A monthly bookmark for your patrons, beginning in February 2015. These will be printed by SWAN for distribution by your front desk staff. They will share with patrons the basics of the new system (attractive new features), and other necessary information such as changing logins. * Printable self-check signage about the migration, in case your patrons don't visit the front desk. You can also leave bookmarks by the self-check too if you like. We will make sure to capture any necessary info such as login changes with this signage. SWAN Memo on Maintenance Invoices for FY16

To Library Directors/Administrators: I have some good news for all SWAN libraries about the additional maintenance invoices. Starting in FY16 these invoices will no longer be sent to SWAN libraries, saving you money. Please read the attached memo for amount details you can use for budgeting. Quick background: the maintenance invoices were Innovative Interface costs libraries were billed for separately outside of the annual SWAN Membership Fees. With the new arrangement with SirsiDynix starting next fiscal year (SWAN is on the July 1 - June 30 fiscal calendar). If you have questions about the memo, please feel free to contact me.
