Good afternoon -
This is a reminder that SWAN needed to make a small change to WorkFlows with respect to
the input of call numbers.
Previously, the call number input field was Caps Locked to allow only the input of upper
case letters. In order to implement the mixed-case call number functionality required for
certain new classification scheme options, the input box is no longer locked into upper
case, but will accept lower case letters.
However, the existing classification policies (LC, DEWEY, LCPER) are still configured as
upper case-only. So when you save a call number using these policies, the call number you
typed will convert to upper case:

So the existing classification schemes are still locked into upper case. The lock is
simply happening at a different point in the process. Therefore it is still not necessary
to hold Shift or use the Caps Lock key to input call numbers.
For more information on this change as well as the new mixed case call number options,
please refer to the Cataloging Advisory Meeting
Notes<https://support.swanlibraries.net/sites/default/files/meeting/2018…
from the group's February 23rd meeting.
Please note that this change has also caused all instances of "|Z" to convert to
"|z" across all classification schemes. This is a visual change only and has no
effect on the treatment of call number analytics.
