My apologies for such a large load. Due to a mix-up with email addresses, OCLC was not notifying SWAN of new titles available. The problem has been resolved.

Everyone -
I thought with the recent network changes I would send out this SWANcom again.
If you haven't already updated the links in WorldCat and your FirstSearch database screens with the new SWAN catalog URL, just follow the instructions below. Although, OCLC is migrating to a new Discovery interface for WorldShare, the current FirstSearch interface will still be available for another year.
The SWAN catalog new URL is http://catalog.swanlibraries.net . You can update this information yourself in the OCLC Service Configuration area or submit an online form to OCLC support<http://registration.oclc.org/reg/?pc=WorldShareILLOPAClinks> and they will update the catalog link for your library. This catalog linking will allow a potential borrower to view the status of the item they are requesting before they enter your library in the lender's string. Save yourself some work and update your catalog link today. See the OCLC email below for more detailed information.
Everyone have a great week.

Subject: [OCLC-SHARING-L] WorldShare ILL Tip of the Week: Save staff time by using library catalog links to confirm availability
Importance: High
The new OCLC WorldShare® Interlibrary Loan service lets ILL staff link to library catalogs to confirm availability of items requested through interlibrary loan.
Ø Borrowers can link from a staff workform to confirm local availability before initiating a request and can link to potential lender catalogs to determine availability before including them in the lending string.
Ø Lenders can link to their own catalogs from lending requests to quickly determine whether requested items are available for loan. For example, WorldShare ILL users will see the following options for linking to library catalogs:
[cid:image003.png@01CF33AC.A2999780]Search my library's online catalog (links to your own catalog)
[cid:image004.png@01CF33AC.A2999780]Library names in Holdings list hotlinked for libraries with catalog links in OCLC Service Configuration
[cid:image005.jpg@01CEF80E.79C53140]
To effectively use this library catalog linking feature in WorldShare ILL, borrowing and lending libraries must maintain up-to-date catalog links in the "Online Catalog" area of the WorldCat Registry settings in OCLC Service Configuration<http://www.worldcat.org/config>:
[cid:image006.jpg@01CEF80E.79C53140]
ENTER OR UPDATE LINKS TO YOUR LIBRARY'S CATALOG
To make sure links to your library's catalog are working as they should, either log on to OCLC Service Configuration to review and update your links or let OCLC staff make the updates for you.
1. Ask OCLC staff to update links to your library's catalog. OCLC staff with experience in setting up these links will set up links to your library's catalog for you. Just complete the catalog link information form<http://registration.oclc.org/reg/?pc=WorldShareILLOPAClinks> with the needed information, and we will do the rest!
Your updated library catalog link information will be active in WorldShare ILL by the end of the business day following your submission.
2. Update library catalog links yourself. If you already have an account to access OCLC Service Configuration, log on to the site at http://www.worldcat.org/config and navigate to the "Online Catalog" area of the section for WorldCat Registry settings. You will see the option to "Suggest Links." This tool will help you confirm that the links you enter are in the appropriate format for the type of catalog at your library. Once you enter your updated link data, it will be active within 24 hours.
FOR ADDITIONAL ASSISTANCE
For additional information about setting up or updating links to your library's catalog:
· Consult the "Online Catalog" area of the WorldCat Registry section of the OCLC Service Configuration Guide<http://www.oclc.org/content/dam/support/worldcat-local/documentation/Servic…> documentation
· Contact OCLC Customer Support at support(a)oclc.org<mailto:support@oclc.org> or OCLC Support in your region<http://www.oclc.org/support/contact-support.en.html> for assistance with using Article Exchange for document delivery.
P.S. Previous WorldShare ILL "Tip of the Week" messages are available for your review on the OCLC website.<http://www.oclc.org/support/training/portfolios/resource-sharing/worldshare…>

On March 6th the SWAN Board invites all library directors in SWAN to our March Quarterly meeting. We will review the final recommendation from the committee and the proposal from SirisDynix. SWAN will seek approval of reserve funds to pay for the proposed solutions for the SWAN consortia. SWAN will send out an agenda and meeting packet for that meeting separately.
As an update, the SWAN Board approved moving forward with negotiations with SirsiDynix. These negotiations are presently underway with Melissa Gardner, SWAN Board President, Rob McGee, RMG Consulting, and Aaron Skog, SWAN Executive Director.
The SWAN ILS Committee would like to thank everyone in our libraries who were participated in our selection process, all those who attended our six days of software demonstrations, and our ILS Task Force groups that were instrumental to our work.
If you have any specific questions about the report, please contact Aaron Skog.

Everyone -
In case you might have missed the announcement, I thought I would forward this information from the ISL E-news regarding an IL Dept. of Commerce and Economic Opportunity grant for public libraries. A number of SWAN libraries qualify for this grant.
"The Illinois State Library (ISL) was recently informed about a grant opportunity from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) for public libraries to receive up to $75,000 in funding to establish a Community Technology Center. To be eligible for funding, a public library must be located in a community where not less than 40 percent of students are eligible for a free or reduced price lunch under the National School Lunch Statistics; or where not less than 30 percent of students are eligible for a free lunch under the National School Lunch Statistics.
ISL has already analyzed the National School Lunch Statistics data provided by DCEO and created a PDF of eligible public libraries<http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/departments/library/grants/pdfs/lib_dceo_…> that may be found with other information about the grant offering at http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/departments/library/grants/eliminatedigit…. Please review the PDF to determine your public library's eligibility status.
There is a very quick turnaround time for applications as the deadline for submission to DCEO is March 14, 2014, at 5 p.m. The Illinois State Library will not be applying directly on behalf of a group of public libraries; however, the State Library will assist public libraries with any questions regarding the application and grant administration procedures. The State Library has scheduled a conference call for eligible public libraries on February 25, 2014, at 9 a.m. Please call 888-494-4032 to participate in the conference call. The access code is 3886075450. For further information, please contact ISL at 217-558-3752."

Is your library using Thin Client Terminals for your staff workstations? If so, we want your feedback!
With the possibility of a new ILS approaching, we'd like to know how you might be using Thin Client Terminals at your libraries so that we can better prepare our potential ILS vendors for support of these devices. More specifically, we'd like to know what sort of Thin Clients you're currently using and how they're configured to support the Millennium staff client installations. Depending on the results of the survey, we may also need to follow-up with your library's IT staff, so please ensure accurate contact information for this purpose.
If your library does support Thin Client technologies for staff use in some capacity, please submit a survey below.

Today in delivery RAILS received a 6 book set of the Fancy Nancy I Can Read series. There were no routing labels on the books, no barcodes, or ownership stamps. Appears to be a new acquisition that somehow ended up in a delivery bin. This is the Fancy Nancy series by Jane O'Connor and includes My Family History, Spectacular Spectacles, The 100th Day of School, Every Day is Earth Day, Fancy Nancy and the Mean Girl, and Fancy Nancy and the Delectable Cupcakes. SWAN Member Services has discovered that Release 2011 triggered some new behavior with respect to holds. These changes were not mentioned by Innovative in the Release Notes, but have now been confirmed by Innovative. Please take note of the following changes that affect holds management:
* Staff will now need to override the hold block when attempting to place a title level hold for a patron who currently has an item checked out on this same bib record. Staff will see an "Authorization Required" dialog box. Please click "OVERRIDE" to supersede this hold block and successfully place the hold. * A selection of holds can no longer be modified as a group from Search/Holds mode after a user has sorted the hold queue by pickup point. Previously, users were able to sort by pickup point, select all holds with that same pickup point, and modify all holds by filling out one dialog box. With the newest release, this is no longer possible. From now on, please modify holds one at a time from the hold queue in Search/Holds mode.
We apologize for any inconvenience. If you should have any questions please contact either Renee Clanton (630-734-5169) or Samantha Dietel (630-734-5163).

Everyone -
SWAN is performing a short survey to determine approximate training needs for our new ILS. Basically we are looking for the number of staff in your various departments or services. If you could designate one staff member in your library to respond to this survey that would be perfect. We would appreciate a quick turnaround of this survey. Please try to complete this by tomorrow noon, if at all possible. If tomorrow is not possible, please submit your answers whenever you have completed them. Your response doesn't have to be exact.
As always I appreciate the wonderful cooperation of the SWAN members, in this instance with the short turnaround even more so.
