To SWAN Library Staff Attending the PLA Conference:
At the request of library directors at our March Quarterly Meeting, SWAN has created the attached memo to assist those of you attending the exhibits at PLA and are interested in seeing the ILS vendors. This memo simply speaks to the current status of SWAN's ILS procurement, and is not intended to be shared with ILS vendors.
Regards,
Aaron

Everyone -
Just a reminder - If you should make the decision to close your library due to weather, please update the RAILS website. http://www.railslibraries.info/members/closings
However, there is no need to notify SWAN to update the "Days Closed" table on the day you are closed as we have recently discovered that is not effective .
The "Days Closed" Innovative software does not recognize today's date as today, but rather the following year's date. In other words, if anyone would be closed tomorrow and we enter 3/12 in the "Days Closed" table tomorrow morning the table considers that to be 3/12/15, not 3/12/14. If, however, we enter 3/12 today, it will consider your library as being closed tomorrow 3/12/14. This is due in part to the fact that the "Days Closed" table only accepts a month and day, not a year. More importantly, it doesn't recognize today as today.
I just thought it was important for everyone to be aware of this fact as it appears a significant snowfall is forecasted for tomorrow. So, if you should close tomorrow due to weather and we update the "Days Closed" table, the software will still assess a fine on any overdue materials even though the library is closed.
Sorry for any confusion.

SWAN Member Libraries & Information Technology Staff:
Please see the linked memo "Network Changes Memo #9: IP Migration Readiness", and route to your appropriate library and IT staff. This memo details a simple test that needs to be performed at your library to ensure preparation for our upcoming IP migration. This check must be completed successfully by Monday, March 24th. Since this check may require IT assistance in some cases, we strongly recommend performing the check sooner than later.

If you have any questions/comments about the upcoming migration, or should you encounter any issues while performing the network check, please submit a ticket to the SWANTech Queue of the SWAN ticket system or contact the SWAN Help Desk directly at 630-734-5153.
Thank you again for your cooperation and patience throughout the SWAN Network Migration Project.

SWAN Libraries,
Today the SWAN library directors voted unanimously to approve funds from the capital reserves so that the SWAN Board can complete negotiations with SirsiDynix. In summary, the vote was 52 in favor, 25 absent, 0 against, 0 abstain.
If you are want to see why this vote was unanimous, I have included the presentation from today that covers proposal from SirsiDynix that all SWAN libraries will get once we complete negotiations. This presentation goes over what SWAN will be getting, including full e-book integration into our catalog, mobile circulation for library staff using tablets, Facebook integration, a mobile app for your library, and much, much more!
We will be sending out a memo next week regarding the PLA Conference to provide guidance to attendees on how to approach ILS vendor exhibitors. Since SWAN is still negotiating, it will be important to make sure we all understand how to visit the booths and what can be shared.
Thank you everyone that came to the meeting today,
Aaron
