SWAN Board, I just want to make sure that we will have a quorum tomorrow morning. Melissa Gardner is not able to attend and Sheila Sosnicki is unable to come to the meeting, however Sheila will be there if a quorum cannot be met. Can I get a quick head count? Reply-all to this email (I’m sorry if this is late in the day). Also, I have attached an agenda with assigned names for the meeting, so consider this the “board version” of the agenda. Mark Hatch from RAILS informed me that the delivery vendor CTS will have a representative at the meeting tomorrow. Regards,Aaron Aaron Skog

When we meet on the 6th, we will be meeting with the entire ILS Committee or just Jeannie.
Thanks,

SWAN Board,
Just thought I would share Dee's blog post "The Value of Consortial Membership"
http://www.railslibraries.info/director-blog/20140109/value-consortial-memb…
I have heard this has stirred up some directors, two stand-alone libraries specifically. Anne Kozak left a great comment!

Hello all,
I will be sending you an Outlook invite shortly for the new Board meeting, which was rescheduled to Thursday, February 6th. This was the best date option, since only one person marked that they could not attend that day.
Thank you!

Hi Brande,
Is the last week of January is out of the question?

The only day coming up that the committee could meet to complete scoring is next Friday, January 17th, which of course is the day of the SWAN Board meeting. Melissa was in attendance at today’s ILS meeting, and after group discussion it was decided that it would be best for the committee to reach a consensus on scoring so that they could come to you with a recommendation before the negotiation takes place, currently scheduled for February 10th and 11th.

SWAN Board:
We've just finished our last day of our two-day ILS Committee final scoring meeting. However, due to the inclement weather and our heater being out at Burr Ridge, our day one (yesterday) was cancelled, and we were not able to complete our scoring to come to a recommendation. The only day coming up that the committee could meet to complete scoring is next Friday, January 17th, which of course is the day of the SWAN Board meeting. Melissa was in attendance at today's ILS meeting, and after group discussion it was decided that it would be best for the committee to reach a consensus on scoring so that they could come to you with a recommendation before the negotiation takes place, currently scheduled for February 10th and 11th.
Therefore, it is necessary to cancel next Friday's Board meeting and reschedule a special Board meeting for later, but hold it prior to the negotiations. The week of February 3rd would be optimal. I've included a link to a Doodle poll below; when you get a moment, please respond to the poll with your availability for the days that week.

Sorry, guys. I forgot to include you all in my response to Aaron. Being on

Can you spell "selfish?" Or would "self absorbed" be better? Actually, this
sounds a lot like a library finding a dog to kick when things go badly. I
would think Orland would have a better appreciation of the meaning of
unjustified criticism than this article seems to indicate.
On the practical note, I think a letter from a "big library" director like
David would be very useful in counteracting the impression that only small
libraries can benefit from being in a consortium.

SWAN Board:
In case some of you have missed the article, I thought I would share with you the Chicago Tribune article which noted the large increase in circulation.
http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2013-12-22/news/ct-orland-park-library-c…
SWAN of course was mentioned in it, negatively of course. They cannot resist that.
The RAILS Leadership team felt that it portrayed consortium in a bad light, so Dee suggested she write a letter to the editor about the topic of resource sharing. I offered to help with the letter. Dee also was thinking that it would be good to have a letter from a SWAN library director. Any thoughts on if a letter should be sent or if we should approach a library director. Dee was thinking of David Seleb, mostly because of a large public library joining SWAN.
