Hi SWAN Board,
Julie and I were reviewing the RAILS Consortia Committee meeting packet for next week, Monday and we thought it would be good to share two memos that will be discussed.
First, there is an interesting memo on what is being discussed by the State Library, ILA, and RAILS on open hold shelf practices. There appears to be some concerns held by state legislators that libraries are revealing too much in terms of patron information on open hold shelves. The memo is worth reading over, and will likely have some future implication for SWAN's best practices on what should be printed on hold wrappers.
Second, the RAILS LLSAP funding formula is going to undergo some revision for FY22. This is after two years of the current formula. I am not entirely sure yet why RAILS is looking to revise the formula, and I passed on my concerns to Julie that we need some reliable funding formula and that it should not change every two years.
I will not be attending the Monday, October 21st committee but Julie will be there. If you want to discuss any of this on Friday, we can talk about that prior to approving the meeting agenda.
Best,
Aaron

All,
I wanted to clarify what our hold slips look like, and they do in fact have the first four letters of the last name and the last five numbers of the library card, together with the pick-up date. I had just never noticed the library card numbers before because there is never another Jenkins on the shelf!

Hi SWAN Board,
The meeting packet is posted for Friday:
https://support.swanlibraries.net/sites/default/files/meeting/19_10_18/6636…
We have three agenda topics of note.
* The RAILS FY21 support grant needs to be approved-and good news! The grant total increased for SWAN by $37,339 which for FY21 brings us up to $562,018 total.
* The closed session minutes going back to 2011 was reviewed by Dawne Bussey, who has a recommendation to open some, leave some closed, and destroy the recordings older than 18 months
* New chart of accounts for SWAN's budget-a first draft was sent to us on Friday last week by Lauterbach, and any feedback you have on wording and budget categories is welcome.
Let me know if you have any questions. Please note, I will be on vacation in the UK from 10/20 through 11/1. I will remind everyone again on Friday.
P.S. I will be visiting Harvey Public Library District tomorrow afternoon.
Regards,
Aaron
