Sorry, guys. I forgot to include you all in my response to Aaron. Being on
vacation fries your brain, I guess.

Can you spell "selfish?" Or would "self absorbed" be better? Actually, this
sounds a lot like a library finding a dog to kick when things go badly. I
would think Orland would have a better appreciation of the meaning of
unjustified criticism than this article seems to indicate.
On the practical note, I think a letter from a "big library" director like
David would be very useful in counteracting the impression that only small
libraries can benefit from being in a consortium.

SWAN Board:
In case some of you have missed the article, I thought I would share with you the Chicago Tribune article which noted the large increase in circulation.

SWAN of course was mentioned in it, negatively of course. They cannot resist that.
The RAILS Leadership team felt that it portrayed consortium in a bad light, so Dee suggested she write a letter to the editor about the topic of resource sharing. I offered to help with the letter. Dee also was thinking that it would be good to have a letter from a SWAN library director. Any thoughts on if a letter should be sent or if we should approach a library director. Dee was thinking of David Seleb, mostly because of a large public library joining SWAN.

Hi Aaron,
I saw the article and of course it had to bash Swan. I thought of what you said about EHS seeing a spike in circ at first and now seeing it drop.
I think a letter from Dee would be great and something from David about why it was important for OPS to rejoin the consortium would be the right way to go. Going negative against ORS would be fun, but wouldn't serve our purpose.
Just my thoughts.

Hello SWAN Board:
Rodger kindly noted that the audit document in the packet did not combine in Adobe properly, and some pages were left mostly blank. I am sending the document out attached to this email while I work to hopefully get it combined in its entirety and reposted to the SWAN site. Please use the copy attached for your review in the meantime.
Thank you,

SWAN Board Members:
The Friday 12/13 meeting packet is now available for you - http://support.swanlibraries.net/sites/default/files/meeting/2013-12-13/pac…
This packet is 95 pages long. We will have a quorum for the meeting, based upon your email responses. We are hopeful that this meeting will end before noon so that no lunch will need to be provided; however, based upon where we are at in early afternoon I can certainly order lunch if needed.
We look forward to seeing you Friday!

SWAN Board:
I have added Anne Kozak to the SWAN Board email list. Anne will not be able to attend our meeting on Friday, but we will see her in January.
Anne, all emails to the SWAN Board list are moderated, Brande or I will need to release them. Occasionally reply-all emails are allowed, but more often we have to moderate email conversations per OMA.
All board member individual email addresses are listed on this SWAN webpage, publicly available:

Hello SWAN Board,
This Friday 12/13 we have a Board meeting (packet to follow either this evening or tomorrow morning). I know that there are a few already that have stated they will not be able to attend; I just want to make sure that we will be able to have a quorum this week. Could you please respond to me separately to let me know if you will be in attendance or not?
Thank you so much,

Subject: New position
Hi everyone,
Please forgive any duplication as I'm sending this to a variety of lists. I have accepted the position of State Librarian for North Dakota. While I'm excited about my new position, I will very much miss the collegiality and networking in Illinois. I've made any friends over the years and am grateful for all of the assistance that I've been given over the years.
I will miss the Director's list of RAILS as it has been a wonderful resource. Maybe RAILS will consider letting former RAILS directors subscribe. (HInt, hint Mary and Dee lol.)
I'm happy that I'll be able to remain on the SPLMI-Alum and Synergy lists so I'll maintain at least some IL connections. Yay!
I'll be at my library until December 27th.
Best wishes,
Mary Soucie
