SWAN Member Libraries & Information Technology Staff:

With SWAN’s ILS migration to SirsiDynix just a little under a year away, now is a good time to begin planning any hardware upgrades necessary to ensure your library’s workstations, network, and peripherals are compatible with the new system. To ensure the most accurate information is available for this purpose, SWAN will be regularly updating the SWANtech Hardware section over the next several months with hardware requirements and recommendations to clarify SirsiDynix’s compatibility with your library’s current hardware and establish the necessity for upgrades. As SWAN tests compatibility and uncovers additional information through training and documentation, the list of requirements will become more complete. The list of recommendations will also be updated as technology evolves in the computer industry and within our libraries, so be sure to check back frequently!

As discussed in last Thursday’s SWANtech meeting, SWAN staff have established the first in this series of recommendations. Our first entry in SWANtech Hardware details desktop requirements and recommendations for systems running SirsiDynix Symphony Workflows (staff client), Enterprise (OPAC), and Bluecloud (mobile/cloud platform). You can find our desktop requirements and recommendations at the link below.

With regard to the desktop configuration, SirsiDynix’s system offerings are not terribly resource-intensive, and their desktop requirements do not vary significantly from our current Innovative Millennium installations. However, if your library is currently in the process of upgrading or planning an upgrade of any desktop or laptop hardware, it is important to ensure your new hardware is equipped with at least the minimum requirements, if not the recommended to ensure the security, integrity, and longevity of your systems.

Should you have any questions or comments about the SWANtech Hardware series or need some help planning a hardware upgrade, please don’t hesitate to contact me at the avenues listed below.

Thank you,
