SWAN Member Libraries,

At today’s Committee of the Whole meeting at Tinley Park Public Library, the agenda included information on the SWAN Board’s open seat; background information on the collaboration between LINC, MAGIC, RAILS, and SWAN; an overview on RAILS LLSAP grants; as well as the topic of a joining fee for LINC and MAGIC libraries. Here’s what to know after today’s meeting:

• PowerPoint slides: Today’s PowerPoint presentation included questions that have been put forth by the membership, and a timeline of steps to take through early 2017. You can download the slides here.
• Board vacancy: If you would like to submit your name, or the name of a colleague, to join the SWAN Board, please submit information to Aaron Skog or any of the board members by Friday, November 18, 2016. The open Board seat’s term ends July 1, 2017.
• More questions? In addition to the questions posed at today’s COW meeting, you can submit other questions or concerns you may have, which will be addressed at the December 1 Quarterly meeting. Please submit these questions by Friday, November 11.
• December Quarterly: We’ll be going over SWAN’s organization structure and staff responsibilities to identify how to strengthen our service to libraries. The membership will also vote on whether or not to require a joining fee for incoming LINC and MAGIC libraries.
• Voting in 2017: In January 2017, SWAN will hold an electronic vote on LINC and MAGIC libraries joining SWAN. The SWAN membership fee structure will also be recalculated to better serve our membership’s needs, and budget revisions and the upcoming fiscal year’s budget will be voted on in March.
