It is SWAN policy to retain MeSH subject headings, and we want to ensure that these are not being accidentally removed through SmartPort or bibload report overlay.

To all libraries performing bibliographic overlay, please ensure the following:

• You are not manually removing MeSH subject headings when editing records in WorkFlows or OCLC Connexion. These headings can be identified as any 6xx field with a second indicator 2.
• If you are using the SmartPort module, please configure your options to retain MeSH headings.
  1. Right-click on the SmartPort module.
  2. Select "Properties..."
  3. Check that the box beside “Remove subject headings” contains “3456”. If there is a 2 in this box, MeSH subject headings will be stripped from an incoming record.
     

We have double checked all bibload and biborderload templates already to ensure that MeSH headings are retained during the record upload process. The portion of the report that controls this is under the Load tab.
