Hi SWAN Board,
Julie and I were reviewing the RAILS Consortia Committee meeting packet for next week, Monday and we thought it would be good to share two memos that will be discussed.
First, there is an interesting memo on what is being discussed by the State Library, ILA, and RAILS on open hold shelf practices. There appears to be some concerns held by state legislators that libraries are revealing too much in terms
of patron information on open hold shelves. The memo is worth reading over, and will likely have some future implication for SWAN’s best practices on what should be printed on hold wrappers.
Second, the RAILS LLSAP funding formula is going to undergo some revision for FY22. This is after two years of the current formula. I am not entirely sure yet why RAILS is looking to revise the formula, and I passed on my concerns to Julie
that we need some reliable funding formula and that it should not change every two years.
I will not be attending the Monday, October 21st committee but Julie will be there. If you want to discuss any of this on Friday, we can talk about that prior to approving the meeting agenda.
Best,
Aaron
